Wow, this city looks so big looking out of the airplane. Standing in the middle of it, after a 45min transit from the airport, it looks even bigger! But we are not here to look at New York - we want to see our car! So off we go to Peekskill to get it.
We ended up sleeping in a first class camper for the night because our van was not ready yet. The next day we couldn't wait to be off to Charlemont where our boats were waiting. With the boats on the roof of the van we finally felt like paddlers on a road trip and were looking forward to doing the ACA whitewater instructor course at Alton Bay.
Arriving at Camp Kabeyun, where the course was based, we felt like in a little paradise - a wonderful lake, super friendly people, nice cabins, a great forest and lovely sunsets!
During the course we learnt everything about alien eyes, Mark's "leg thing" and golf claps (sorry, no photos since Kevin subbed his waterproof camera on the Verzasca a few weeks ago...). And of course much more! We had a great time on the river switching between being a teacher and being an annoying student. And finally, our brandnew boats got the first few scratches!
But even with all the activity we had a hard time not putting on weight since Jeff the Chef was giving it all baking fresh muffins and cooking hearty meals three times a day.
After successfully completing the course we were looking forward to hitting the road. Next destination: Chicago!
